Regular Exercise & Eating Healthy Helps To Prevent Breast Cancer!

Today in the news, I see they are talking about breast cancer and obesity. For a while we have understood that obesity has been linked to breast cancer. In fact the studies have shown that women with the highest BMIs (body mass indexes), are at 39% increased risk for the estrogen receptor-positive breast cancers. These are the more common breast cancers frequently seen in post-menopausal women. However, the news today addresses a different type of breast cancer; the one known as the Triple Negative breast cancer. This is one of the most malignant forms of the cancer, and is associated with the lowest survival rates. It appears that it is not related to simply the increased estrogen production in this group.  The new data analyzed the BMIs and exercise schedule of the study participants.  It found a 35% increased risk in the women with high BMIs. It suggests that decreasing BMI and routinely exercising may be important keys to minimizing risk. The researchers agree that additional testing is necessary to more clearly define other associations such as insulin levels, inflammation, or growth hormone factors.  For now, the bottom line is that regular exercise and eating healthy (fruits and vegetables and less sugary drinks and fatty foods) continue to be key factors in cancer prevention. Let’s commit together to work to lower the statistics. More Info Here
