Keeping you at your best for years to come is our top priority.
Preventive care starts with you annual health care visit. This is a great opportunity for you to take charge of your health, and for us to find problems early on and/or to prevent them before they occur.
The path to wellness starts with your annual Well Woman Exam.

Well Woman Care
Your health is important at every age. At Fleur Women’s Health in Rancho Mirage, CA, we believe in keeping you well rather than just treating you when you are sick. Well Woman Care is a program that can help you feel your best and avoid chronic conditions. Our services are focused on the prevention and early detection of breast cancer, cervical cancer, osteoporosis, and other diseases that affect women.
What Is Well Woman Care?
This preventative program is a series of steps that we can take together to keep you feeling great throughout your life. Our doctors will work with you to promote your general well-being while focusing on specific conditions that might affect you. They include:
- Breast cancer
- Gynecological infections
- Human Papilloma Virus (HPV)
- Osteoporosis
- Cervical Cancer
This program also provides contraception, allowing you to live the life you plan for, and sterilization in the event that fertility is no longer safe or desired.
The Well Woman Care Exam
The first step in this program is the Well Woman Exam, which assesses your current health. It includes an evaluation of your medical history and screenings for breast cancer and gynecological diseases. Your exam is an excellent opportunity for you to ask your doctor questions regarding lifestyle choices.
We will share our expertise by providing information about how you can safeguard your health. Factors like your diet, exercise, and stress management are important. This preventative program can help you optimize all of these areas.
Preventative Care
Quite often, it’s easier to avoid a problem than to solve it. That’s the idea behind preventative medicine. In the event that you do develop a condition, the sooner it is detected and treated, the better your recovery will be. Here are just a few of the preventative service we offer:
Screenings for Breast Cancer
Breast cancer affects one in eight women. Certain factors increase your risk for developing this condition, including having dense breasts, taking birth control pills, experiencing late menopause, and being overweight. Your risk increases as you get older.
We will provide you with extensive breast cancer screening, including a yearly mammogram. A mammogram is a test that uses a special X-ray to detect cancerous cells in the breasts. You should plan to come in for this exam once a year after age 45. Younger women also have the option to get a screening. During your Well Woman appointments, we can show you how to perform self-exams at home between your mammograms. Contact us if you notice any of these signs:
- A lump in your breast
- A lump in your arm
- Swelling or pain in the breast
- Fluid from your nipple
- Red, flaky skin
Screenings for Cervical Cancer, STDs, and HPV
Cervical cancer, STDs, and HPV are all conditions that can affect the female reproductive organs. HPV is transmitted through sexual contact and causes abnormal cells to form in the cervix. If left untreated, it can develop into cervical cancer. A number of other gynecological infections can also occur over the course of your life.
We offer routine screenings, including the Pap test, to detect these issues and treat them quickly. During the Pap test, a special brush takes a small sample from the cervix. This process is fast and does not cause pain. If the Pap test shows evidence of an infection, we can prescribe antibiotics and other forms of treatment. We will order subsequent tests if we suspect that the tissue might be cancerous.
Tests and Treatments for Osteoporosis
Osteoporosis is a deterioration of the bones. Women are five times more likely to suffer from it than men. Prevention and treatment of this disease are very important, because it can cause injuries and disabilities that impact your quality of life. We can help you take steps to protect yourself from this condition by advising good lifestyle choices. These include dietary considerations. You should avoid an excess of vitamin A, salt, and caffeine. Meanwhile, it is important to make sure you get enough calcium and vitamin D.
Several tests are available to detect osteoporosis, including the bone mineral density test and the DXA scan. For women with this condition, various medications can help treat it and lower the risk of bone fractures.
Contraception
Contraception is defined as the voluntary prevention of pregnancy. Depending on the method you choose, it can also lower the risk of sexually transmitted diseases. There are several types of contraception. They fall into the following categories:
- Mechanical barriers (condoms, female condoms, and diaphragms)
- Hormonal contraceptives (birth control pills)
- Intrauterine devices (IUDs)
- Spermicide
We can discuss these options with you and give you the information you need to make the right choice. When needed, we also provide emergency contraception. Permanent contraception can also be achieved through sterilization.
